CGR,
Coolant Gas Recharger
The CVB Infra-red Coolant Gas Recharger is a combination fill station and purity monitor used for recharging various coolant gas receivers which are components of the infra-red detection systems used in missiles and night vision devices. The CGR enables on-site charging of three common types of high pressure IR coolant gas receivers with clean, dry nitrogen gas meeting the requirements of MIL-R-81202D.
Very clean and very dry high pressure nitrogen gas is an approved medium for cooling IR detector sensors used in various military missile systems.
The CGR is capable of charging TMU-72, LAU-7 and/or LAU-127 coolant receiver depending on CGR model. Charging of these receivers are accomplished by connecting the CGR to a source of high pressure nitrogen such as CVB's MNG-2. SNG or MANCS as well as other SGNSC/GANG units. Prior to recharging a coolant gas receiver the supplied high pressure gas must be further cleaned and dried by the CGR to a contaminant level equal to or better than required by MIL-R-81202D.
It is imperative that a recharger reduce the contaminants to a very low level to prevent the gas from condensing at temperatures above -320°F (the liquefaction point of nitrogen) and freeze in the tiny J-T orifice which liquefies the nitrogen used to cool the infra-red sensor. Blockage by frozen contaminants or by tiny solid particle could render the sensor (and thus the missile guidance system) useless.
CvI CGR's are used by many military organizations worldwide, for servicing aircraft coolant gas receivers such as the LAU-7, LAU-127 and TMU-72.
